About the role:

The Asset Management team is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Rail) to join them on a 4/3 FIFO roster from Perth to Port Hedland.

 

Reporting to the Superintendent 4 to 3 Shutdowns, you’ll develop the maintenance and risk management strategies for the rail team that allows the shutdowns to transition from four to three shutdowns a year. This is a business-critical role playing a key part in achieving process plant, rail and port equipment reliability and availability targets, and achieving lowest whole of life maintenance costs.


Duties:

  • Complete Maintenance Strategy review of track and rolling stock through the lens of extending shutdown intervals.
  • Review maintenance strategies against the regulations and ensure they are compliant.
  • Create new or optimise asset management plans and strategies for rollingstock fleet & track
  • Identify opportunities for shutdown duration reduction.
  • Identify engineering opportunities (such as increasing equipment service life) and economic justification for improvements and communicate those to the required parties
  • Develop maintenance strategy inspection check sheets.
  • Seek opportunities to improve overall asset performance.
  • Review current maintenance practices and identify areas for improving costs, efficiencies, and productivity.
  • Undertake site inspections, validate data outputs and make recommendations
  • Lead the delivery of business improvements and changes for locomotive & track and undertake technical communication across stakeholders
  • Liaise with site stakeholders throughout the process.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering with at least 5 years relevant industry experience
  • Experience in the maintenance and reliability of rail track required, with knowledge of diesel electric locomotives and rolling stock desirable.
  • Solid knowledge and experience solving maintenance problems and implementing reliability improvements in within the rail industry.
  • Experience with maintenance tactics development and improvement tools such as (Reliability Centred Maintenance, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Plant Maintenance Optimisation, life cycle cost evaluations).
  • Skilled with root cause analysis or similar methods for identifying and preventing asset issues
  • Sound understanding of assets condition monitoring and analysis of relevant data
  • Experience in asset management support roles such as maintenance planning, maintenance specialist or production/ maintenance leadership (desirable).
  • Current WA manual C class driver’s licence (or convertible to WA Licence) is desirable
  • Experience with SAP system or similar is desirable
