About the role
The planning specialist will be working on minesite construction projects where they will be project planning, scheduling and be the progress & performance custodian. The positions objectives are to provide a quality, well maintained, and accepted detailed integrated master schedule.

 

You will be a go-to technical expert on all matters related to scheduling and be the custodian of schedule integrity, relevance, and timeliness. It will require you to be proactive in all scheduling and planning matters and schedule software (P6 & MS Project), ensuring effective, efficient, honest, and timely schedule and planning related reporting.  In this role you will also facilitate progress & performance measurement and reporting from defined rules of credit and champion the earned value measurement for design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
 
Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Support all scheduling, planning and progress activities. 
  • Provide guidance and support to the Lead Planner in all matters relating to scheduling and planning interpretation. 
  • Be the schedule integrity champion on behalf of the Lead Planner, Project Director and Functional Project Controls Manager.
  • Manage the Project Master Schedule and ensure oversight & integrity of all associated detailed schedules including contractor/3rd Party Schedules. (Understanding constraints, open ended logic, negative float, comprehensive resource loading, critical path(s) and key drivers, etc. will be essential).
  • The planning specialist is accountable to amend, manage, maintain, and solicit all information that is required to support a quality, concise, timely and trusted schedule.
  • The schedule is effectively updated and maintained against the approved baseline schedule on a monthly basis. 
  • Weekly and monthly schedule reports are reviewed in a manner that supports all progress or key concerns.
  • Scheduling meetings are recorded, and actions are tracked and communicated to the management team in a timely, accurate and transparent manner. 
  • Good industry standard scheduling and planning practice are undertaken and in compliance with HanRoy protocols, procedures, standards, and agreements.
  • Full use of earned value performance indicators (SPI & EV) to flag any schedule creep.
  • Providing scheduling guidance to HanRoy Leads and others on all matters of acceleration or recovery against the baseline, including critical path analysis and major risk areas.
  • Work closely with both the contractors and the HanRoy management team to critically analyse and provide a scheduling position on all trends that may impact the manning, resourcing and or timeliness of deliverables.
  • Identify schedule risk and opportunities (R&O) and prepare and maintain a schedule R&O register, ensuring that it is provided as part of the information to support the weekly 90 Day look ahead meeting.
  • Ensure good scheduling and planning practice are undertaken and in compliance with HanRoy protocols, procedures, standards, and agreements.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Degree n Business, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, Scheduling (Critical Path Analysis) and or Procurement are desirable. 
  • Proven track record and of knowledge of engineering/construction/ commercial construction industry contracting practices, applicable government & commercial regulations & practices, and policies, procedures, and work practices.
  • Proven and current experience in the development and maintenance of detailed level 4 integrated Project schedules which include the provision of Engineering, Procurement & Construction services across a multi-disciplined construction site.
  • Current knowledge and experience of Project enabling environmental, mining and government permitting and approvals requirements, processes and procedures
  • Experience in the provision of scheduling and planning services that have contributed to the successful delivery of large Project related contracts such as Design & Construct (D&C), Build Own & Operate (BOO), Construction, Service Contracts, Consultancies, etc.
  • Experience in contract administration, home office & site procedures and documents relating to a multi-discipline construction project is highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated high level of Critical Path Analysis specifically in relation to the formation of EOT claims.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • 4-8+ years experiences as a Scheduler/Planner preferably within or servicing the commercial / mining sector or large infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
